News and Progress from June, 1999 Back
to Current News and Progress Page June 25 , 1999 The Pancreatic Tumor Study Group and its programs was featured in the April 1999 issue of the M D Anderson publication, "OncoLog". OncoLog is a newsletter about oncology that is distributed to general practice physicians. Copies are available to the general public on request. A few extra copies of the April 1999 edition are available (first come, first served) by emailing the Department of Scientific Publications at egagneau@mdanderson.org. (The department prefers email requests, but if you do not have access to email, they can be reached via phone at 713-792-3305.) The article is posted in a text-only online archive of OncoLog issues at www.mdanderson.org/~oncolog. While you're there check out the rest of OncoLog's page: There is a list of three years' worth of articles about various issues in oncology, many of which relate to pancreatic cancer patients. June 15 , 1999 Information is now available on PanCAN's 2nd Annual "Evening With The Stars" fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research. The event will be held in Beverly Hills on November 7, 1999. M D Anderson will be sending a contingent this year from the PTSG. For more information, see the PanCAN website at www.pancan.org. PanCAN pamphlets with basic information about the disease and contact information for the advocacy group are now available in the M D Anderson Patient Learning Center on the 4th floor of the LeMaistre clinic. Top Web Picks/Patient Services: Pathway To Hope The Internet Services Department has now completed M D Anderson's "Pathway To Hope" care section. This section contains web pages for the Anderson Network, the Chaplain's Corps, the Department of Social Work, an Information Line, the Life After Cancer Care program, and the "Place...of Wellness." Opened in September, 1998, the Place...of Wellness is "an M.D. Anderson on-campus facility and the first of its kind in the nation, providing an environment where all people touched by cancer may enhance their quality of life through programs that complement medical care and focus on the healing abilities of the mind, body and spirit." The Place...of Wellness and the Pathway To Hope pages have been added to the PTSG's Top Web Picks, right by the Anderson Network link. Most programs in the Pathway To Hope care center are open to all patients, family members, and care givers, regardless of where treatment was received.
