Public Awareness and Activism

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN)

PanCAN is "the premiere voice of patient advocacy for pancreatic cancer". PanCAN is responsible for the "purple-ribbon" awareness campaign; at M D Anderson, you can see the ribbon pins on the clinic personnel and other staff. PanCAN is also responsible for the annual "Evening With The Stars" benefit galas in the Los Angeles area. There are plenty of ideas here for the budding activist to join the fight: information on regional chapter activities, updates on progress in pancreatic cancer research from various institutions, and updates from Capitol Hill regarding the government's commitment to studying this cancer.

The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research

The Lustgarten Foundation is a recently-founded group of medical and laboratory research scientists pooling their resources to find and develop new targets for pancreatic cancer treatment. Some of the site's features are still in development, including online video conferences and journal clubs for medical professionals, plus news and information for the general public.
