Multi-Institutional Phase II Study of Preoperative Rapid-Fractionation External-Beam Radiation Therapy and Concomitant Gemzar (gemcitabine) for Patients with Resectable Adenocarcinoma of the Pancreatic Head

PATIENT ELIGIBILITY

Inclusion:

Cytologic or histologic proof of adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic head or uncinate process (resectable by CT); stages I, II (T1-4, Nx); Kornofsky P.S.>=70; AGC>1,500 cells/mm3; platelets >=80,000 cells/mm3; serum bilirubin <5mg/dl; serum creatinine <1.6 mg/dl; bilateral renal function or >=2/3 of one functioning kidney must be shielded from XRT; adequate oral nutrition w/o N/V before XRT.

Exclusion:

Islet cell tumors are not eligible; no hepatic or peritoneal metastases detected prior to chemoradiation/ no children/ women of childbearing potential must practice contraception and must not be pregnant or breast feeding.
