The following web pages have been recommended
by our patients and supporters. These sites have been found to
be informative and helpful to many patients and family members
searching the Internet for information. However, they are produced
by individuals with their own experiences and opinions. The
opinions expressed on these websites are those of the people who
created them and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the
M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, its faculty, or staff.

We strongly recommend these first three selections

"The
Median Isn't the Message" :
Any diagnosis of cancer, not just pancreatic, is going to involve
a serious discussion of survival statistics. We understand that
this can be unsettling, to say the very least. Before delving
too deeply into this discussion with your doctor or with other
cancer patients, many patients recommend this brief essay by Stephen
Jay Gould from the CancerGuide website. Dr. Gould describes in
simple, straightforward terms how he faced disturbing statistical
data positively, from his perspective as both a scientist familiar
with statistics AND a cancer survivor.
"The
Pros and Cons of Researching Your Cancer":
If you are a patient or a relative of a patient looking at this
website, you are probably here to do some research on available
treatment options for cancer. Steve Dunn, a cancer survivor-turned-activist
and patient advocate has compiled this list. Mr. Dunn has been
in your shoes: he was diagnosed with cancer, he sought out information
on the Internet about it, then was faced with challenging decisions
on how to proceed. Mr. Dunn has clearly outlined his experience
and his personal opinions on the subject, in order to aid other
patients in deciding how to go about learning about their disease.

"The
Pancreatic Duct" is one-stop shopping for the serious student
of pancreatic cancer, its treatment, and support for patients
and caregivers. It lists an exhaustive array of information links
from the National Cancer Institute and other responsible sources.
Of special note on this site is the "Pancreas-Onc" Internet newsgroup.
Many people have subscribed to this list for frank discussion
of their experiences with pancreatic cancer. This website was
created by Don Sterner,
a pancreatic cancer survivor who was treated at M. D. Anderson.

particular article or site regarding pancreatic cancer and/or
its related issues, visit The Pancreatic Duct first.
