Integrative Medicine Program Lecture Series

The Integrative Medicine Program Lecture Series hosts expert speakers from around the world to present state-of-the-art research and clinical programs in the area of integrative medicine.  Topics deal with evidence-based research on complementary cancer treatments and therapies.

Events are held on the third Tuesday of every month and are designed for healthcare professionals within and outside the institution. 

The Lecture Series is kindly underwritten by the Friends of Integrative Medicine.

Speaker: Lorenzo Cohen, PhD and Gabriel Lopez, MD
Speaker Bio: Dr. Lorenzo Cohen is the Richard E. Haynes Distinguished Professor in Clinical Cancer Prevention and Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) and Distinguished Clinical Professor, Fudan University Cancer Hospital, Shanghai, China. Dr. Cohen is a founding member and past president of the international Society for Integrative Oncology. Dr. Cohen is passionate about educating others on how to prevent cancer and maintain optimal health across the lifespan. As the majority of cancers are preventable, Dr. Cohen is conducting research to demonstrate that lifestyle factors can influence cancer outcomes. Dr. Cohen leads a team conducting NIH-funded research and delivering clinical care of integrative medicine practices such as meditation, yoga, tai chi, massage, diet, exercise, acupuncture and other strategies such as stress management, music therapy, emotional writing and more aimed at reducing the negative aspects of cancer treatment and improving quality of life and clinical outcomes. & Dr. Lopez is an Assistant Professor and Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Center at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation, & Integrative Medicine. His primary clinical focus is conducting integrative oncology consultations in the Integrative Medicine Center. Dr. Lopez received his medical degree from the Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He received training in Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Houston Medical School. Following his residency, Dr. Lopez completed a fellowship in Palliative Care and Symptom Control at MD Anderson and then a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Lopez is fluent in Spanish, and has clinical interest in the areas of integrative oncology, supportive care and symptom assessment.
