Project ECHO – Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes

Project ECHO – Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes

Dr. Arora has developed and implemented a novel, highly impactful, and exceptionally well-funded telemedicine-based outreach program to raise the standards of care for a variety of common and complex diseases among primary care providers across New Mexico. The program was initially developed based on Dr. Arora's own expertise in managing hepatitis patients, but it has grown in breadth and depth to now involve many other medical topics relevant to the rural and frontier populations of New Mexico, including sessions on cardiac risk reduction, asthma, palliative care, chronic pain management, diabetes management, etc. His group has not yet developed extensive programs in cancer prevention, cancer care, or survivorship although he feels there is great opportunity to do so. This approach might be extremely useful to MD Anderson in disseminating our care strategies to assist others, helping to raise oncology care standards, building positive relationships with primary care providers and possibly referrals from across our state, and most importantly, reducing the burden of cancer across Texas (and possibly, beyond our borders, as well).
