Holiday Safety Tips

With the upcoming holiday season, ensure you and your family remain safe.  Whether you're staying home, shopping or traveling, personal safety is the number one priority.

  • When shopping, take a friend along for company.  Let family members know where you're going and what time you'll be returning.  Ensure you have a cell phone in the event your schedule changes or help is needed.  Take only the items you need - extra credit cards and cash need to be left at home.
  • Park in well lit areas and be aware of your surroundings in parking lots.  Secure your vehicle and don't leave valuables in plain view.  As you return to your vehicle, have your keys out and check the surrounding area for suspicious persons.  Follow your instincts, if something doesn't feel right, turn around and go get help.
  • Keep your vehicle in good condition.  Make sure you always have more than half a tank of gas.  If you have car trouble, try to pull off the road safely.  Make contact with a family member for help and remain in the vehicle.
  • While driving, if you feel like you're being followed, don't go home.  Proceed to a fire station, convenience store or other populated area while sounding your horn.  Remain in your vehicle until help arrives.
  • Don't stop for gas or use convenience stores after dark.  Never leave your vehicle unattended and unsecured, even for a minute.
  • Don't use ATM's in isolated areas or after dark.  Have a friend with you who can maintain watch of the area as you complete your transaction.
  • Utilize timers at your home to keep the interior lit - make it look like you're at home even when your not.

While at work, remember to secure all valuables, wear your UT ID Badge and report suspicious persons immediately to UT Police at (713) 792-2890.

UT Police Annual Toy Drive

It's that time of year again - the UT Police Annual Toy Drive is underway and needs your help.  The UT Police are accepting new and unwrapped toys for delivery to hospitalized children over the holidays.  Toys for infants and adolescents are needed the most.  Become a toy drive coordinator and place collection boxes in work areas for toys.  Additionally, Santa will need helpers to deliver the toys after Tuesday, 12/16.
