Clinical Awards:

W. M. Keck Center for Cancer Gene Therapy Program Meeting Minutes
September 24, 2001 - Hickey Auditorium

Call to Order

  • The meeting was called to order at 3:07 pm in the Hickey Auditorium by the Program Director, Jack A. Roth, M.D.
  • Dr. Roth welcomed everyone and provided a brief overview of the agenda items.

Summary of Vector Core Progress

  • Dr. Richard Giles presented information on the Retrovirus and Other Virus Vector Section.
  • Dr. Bingliang Fang presented information on the Adenovirus Vector Section.

Development Award Updates

  • Dr. Roth introduced Dr. Larry Lachman who gave a presentation entitled "A gene vaccine for metastatic breast cancer."
  • Dr. Roth introduced Dr. Frank Marini who gave a presentation entitled "Mesenchymal stem cells as a gene delivery agent."
  • Dr. Roth introduced Dr. Marina Konopleva who gave a presentation entitled "Anti-Apoptotic proteins Bcl-2 and survivin as targets in AML therapy."
  • Dr. Roth introduced Dr. Barton Grossman who gave a presentation entitled "Connexin 26 gene therapy of bladder cancer."

Budget

  • Dr. Roth reviewed the Year Three Budget for the Keck Center.
  • Dr. Roth informed program members about the 2002 Texas Medical Center Symposium hosted by the Keck Center. The Symposium will be held on November 11, 2002 at M. D. Anderson in the Hickey Auditorium. The 2002 Symposium title is "Clinical Applications in Cancer Gene Therapy." Dr. Roth asked program members to submit speaker names to him.

Other Business

  • Dr. Roth asked program member to submit ideas to him regarding increasing attendance at the annual meeting.
  • A suggestion was made, seconded and approved to hold a series of mini-symposia over the next year at lunch.The Keck Center will provide 100 box lunches.
  • Dr. Andreeff told the members that a Keck Center program member will present at Grand Rounds sometime in Spring 2002.

Adjourn

  • There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
