Registering for Library Privileges:
Registering for privileges with the Research Medical Library enables you to check out books from this library and other libraries in the Texas Medical Center. Registration is also required before using other Research Medical Library services, such as starting a Printing & Photocopy Service account or requesting a copy of an article through Document Delivery (ILLiad).
To register for library privileges, come to the Research Medical Library's Information Desk with your M. D. Anderson badge. If you would prefer to fax in your Library Borrower Registration Form and a photocopy of your ID badge (front and back), please call the Information Desk (713-792-2282) for assistance. (Click here for a copy of the Library Borrower Registration Form).
Self-Renew Library Books Online:
Research Medical Library users may renew library books online without visiting or calling the Library. Books, journals, and audiovisual items checked out from any of the main libraries in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) can be renewed online using any Internet connection. Follow the steps below to renew your items online:
- Connect to the shared online catalog of the Texas Medical Center libraries using the Library Catalog link, under "Quick Links", on any page of the Research Medical Library's Web site and click on My Info. You can also go directly to the login page at: http://mda.thslc.net/cgi- bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=pbLogon
Enter your last name and library card number. (For M. D. Anderson users, this will be the number beneath the barcode on the back of your badge.) Click the Login button.
- In the Charged Items section of the My Info page, you will see the list of items checked out to you with a checkbox to the left of each item. Check the boxes for any items you wish to renew, and click the Renew Items button at the bottom of the Charged Items section.
To the right of each renewed item, the new due date will appear in the Renewal Status column. The length of the renewal loan period follows the policy of the lending library. If an item was unable to be renewed for any reason (see below), Not Renewed will display in the Renewal Status column instead of the new due date.
Not Renewed may display for any of the following reasons:
- The item is not eligible to be renewed (for example, bound journals at certain libraries).
- You have reached the maximum number of renewals for the item. (Most TMC libraries set a limit of two renewals.)
- Another user has placed the item "on hold".
Note also that if any TMC library has blocked your library privileges for any reason (excessive fines, lost books), you will not see checkboxes for the items checked out and will be unable to renew any items.
If you have questions, please call the Information Desk at 713-792-2282. |
