Cited Reference Searching -- Trying to identify everything published on a topic? Or, do you want to find every article that has cited your published work? Then attend this class to learn how to do cited reference searching using Web of Science. In one hour, you will be amazed how it will expand your sources for research.

EndNote Basics * NEW -- EndNote is a citation management program that makes it easy to create bibliographies and in-text citations. This 90-minute hands-on session will cover creating an EndNote Library and the basics of using EndNote with Word. Attendees will be able to search PubMed through EndNote, create Groups, configure and download full text, and input citations into a Word document. EndNote X2 for PC and Word 2007 will be used.

EndNote-Advanced *NEW -- This hands-on session will cover importing citations into your EndNoteX2 Libraries, practicing with Cite While You Write, as well as introducing the concept of editing citation styles. Attend this 90-minute session to find out how to enter citations from Research Medical Library databases into your EndNote library, create Smart Groups, and collaborate using EndNoteWeb. EndNote X2 for PC and Word 2007 will be used.

Impact Factors -- Impact factors rank the relative importance of journals. Learn how impact factors are calculated and be able to locate the impact factors as well as the alternative metrics that provide a different perspective on scientific publishing. This hands-on session will provide practice searching time.

MEDLINE Searching: Using OVIDSP -- Library users have access to over 15 databases that are searched using the Ovid interface. This class uses MEDLINE to teach several important Ovid searching skills, such as: combined keyword and subject term searching, finding specific authors, and a variety of ways to focus retrieval to the items of interest. PubMed 1: Basics *NEW -- This 60-minute class introduces MEDLINE searching using the PubMed interface from the National Library of Medicine with recent updates. The class will cover how to construct a basic search, use the Single Citation Matcher and the Advanced Search, and identify PubMed’s new summary display ads and Related Articles. The class will demonstrate how to use the Limits, History, Send to, and Clipboard features. Attendees will learn how to navigate to full-text articles while using PubMed. Class Manual

PubMed 2: Advanced *NEW -- This 60-minute class will cover PubMed’s advanced search features. The class will feature precision searching for citations using the Citation Sensor, using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Preview/Index. PubMed 3: Search Clinic*NEW -- This 90-minute class will cover searching for chemicals and drugs in PubMed. It will provide an overview of the NIH Public Access Policy and attendees will search for PubMed Central IDs (PMCID) using the PMID/PMCID converter. An introduction to Special Queries including the specialized subject searches for Cancer, Veterinary Medicine and Health Disparities. The last 30-minutes of the class will give attendees the opportunity to work on search strategies related to their research.
