Evidence-Based Practice Instruction

The five-step model for evidence-based practice (EBP) includes:

  1. Translation of uncertainty to an answerable questions
  2. Systematic retrieval of best evidence available
  3. Critical appraisal of evidence for validity, clinical relevance, and applicability
  4. Application of results in practice
  5. Evaluation of performance

The librarians can provide instruction and guidance for the skills necessary for Steps 1 and 2 and we can assist with Steps 3 and 5.  We work with established EBP programs at MD Anderson:

For more information about evidence-based curricula and skills, read the 2005 Sicily statement on evidence-based practice: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC544887/
