April Aultman Becker is the Education Coordinator at the Research Medical Library. She has been with MD Anderson since the fall of 2011. April comes to MD Anderson from San Jacinto College, where she coordinated the distance learning and embedded librarian programs, provided point-of-need reference, and worked closely with the health sciences department. She earned her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas in 2005. Prior to academic librarianship, April was a high school librarian, elementary school librarian, and high school English teacher. April is an active member of the Texas Library Association. She is available to teach advanced searching skills, evidence-based practice skills, and course integrated research competency skills to students, faculty, and staff affiliated with the institution. April hopes to extend and enhance the library’s education programs by collaborating with departments to develop specialized curriculum to meet their needs.

Clara Fowler is the Manager of Information Services at the Research Medical Library.  She has worked at MD Anderson since 2005 and has been a librarian for 12 years.  Prior librarian positions include working as an instruction librarian at the University of Texas at Austin, as an instructor at the CUNY Hunter Health Professions Library, and as a coordinator of instruction programs at the University of Houston Libraries.  She is recognized for her service to state and national professional librarian organizations including the Texas Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries.  Clara’s expertise includes teaching evidence-based practice and facilitating active and collaborative learning environments.  She is available to lead a departmental session on any library resource or searching skill, facilitate an evidence-based approach for journal clubs, and provide expert searching consultations.

Laurissa Gann is the Outreach Coordinator at the Research Medical Library. She has been with MD Anderson since 2005 and earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas in 2007. Laurissa is an active member of the Texas Library Association and South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association. She is the primary point of contact for faculty, students, and staff at our satellite campuses and facilities. Laurissa’s goal is to enhance access to the library’s resources through outreach, instruction and reference services.

Amy Sisson joined MD Anderson in 2011, and has previously worked at the University of Houston-Clear Lake as the librarian liaison to NASA Johnson Space Center.  She earned a Master’s Degree in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota in 1992 and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University at Albany (SUNY) in 2002, and is currently working towards an advanced graduate certificate in Health Informatics at the University of North Texas.
