Introduction:

In order to access many of the Library's online resources, such as online journals and databases, your internet session must originate from an M. D. Anderson Cancer Center IP address. When you are off campus you can use what is called a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to gain access to these resources.

To use the M. D. Anderson Virtual Private Network (VPN) you will need to contact 4-INFO (4-4636) to request an account and the VPN software for your computer. Information can also be found on the Integrated Desktop Services web site at:
http://4info.mdanderson.org/vpn

Please note: Access to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) is only available to faculty and staff of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

 
Custom Settings for the Research Medical Library:
Once you have an M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Virtual Private Network (VPN) account you will need to insure that the Nortel VPN client software is properly configured on your computer to access the Library's online resources. The following instructions guide you through the process of setting this up.
 
Step 1:
 

Launch the Nortel VPN Extranet Access Client:
 
Step 2:
 

From within the Client, select Options and then Authentication Options:
 
Step 3:
 

Within the Authentication Options window change the Group ID entry to mdanosplit: (The default value is "mdastd". Just delete "mdastd" and insert "mdanosplit").
 
Step 4:
  Click OK and save. Close the Nortel Extranet Access Client and then launch it again. This should now enable you to access the Research Medical Library databases and online journals.
