THE WATER LEAK
On Thursday October 17th at 10:20 AM, an air conditioning duct fell on a sprinkler line and broke a pipe releasing 1500 gallons of water over the library’s print journals. In an effort to salvage the collection, 551 boxes of water-logged journals were sent to drying facilities to be freeze dried. The remaining dry journals were removed and are being stored in a climate controlled storage facility. Carpet was removed to facilitate drying, sheet rock was repaired and re-painted, and lifts were used to repair the damage to the sprinkler system, air duct and ceiling tiles.
THE LIBRARY IS OPEN
The physical library was re-opened on Monday, October 21nd with limited space. Due to the diligent and tireless efforts of MD Anderson’s amazing Facilities & EH&S departments, the library is hoping to be fully open this Thursday, November 7th.
GET ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY
Don’t forget that you can access our full-text journals through the library’s website, tablet site or the new Browzine app. If you can’t find what you’re looking for online, order it for free through the ILLiad system.
We would like to thank the many people involved in the disaster recovery including UTPD, EH&S, Housekeeping, and Facilities Management for their quick response, and Dr. Bogler, Dr. Dmitrovsky and Dr. DePinho for their care and concern. We would like to especially thank our library users for their patience and support during the recovery.
The library has been growing its eBook Collection over the past year with new ebooks series including, Access Medicine textbooks, the Oncology Nursing Society, Springer, Elsevier and the Reference eBook collection. With these new collections, we’ve added “physical” eBooks within our print collection. These will help you discover books beyond our shelves. If you see a bookmark like the one on the right, feel free to take it and scan the code to access the eBook on your computer or mobile device.
