The
television documentary titled Prostate Cancer: A Journey
of Hope has won a Telly Award from the Center for Creativity
and has been named a finalist for a Freddie Award by Time Inc
Health.
The
hour-long video featuring several M. D. Anderson faculty, prostate
cancer patients and their family members aired last June on Public
Broadcast Service (PBS) stations nationwide. Production crews
visited M. D. Anderson several times to follow physicians and
their patients. The film was produced for PBS by Banyan Communications
in St. Louis, Missouri.
Program
topics ranged from detecting prostate cancer early through routine
screening tests to the importance of quality-of-life for patients.
Gen.
H. Norman Schwarzkopf, a prostate cancer survivor himself, narrates
the educational documentary. The program addresses the realities
of prostate cancer while showing the strength and optimism of
patients and their families affected by the disease.
Telly
Awards have been given for 20 years to outstanding non-television
network and cable television materials. More than 11,000 entries
were submitted for the 1999 awards.
Now
in its 25th year, the Freddie Award competition honors films,
documentaries and television series on health-related issues that
change peoples lives. These awards are sponsored by Time
Inc Health, a division of Time Warner.
