Teens Taking Action

Ten of M. D. Anderson's dedicated young volunteers have developed a cancer prevention educational program called "Dreams to Action" -- an interactive presentation educating grade school children about the dangers of tobacco.

Through the use of videos, skits and props like "Mr. Gross Mouth" and "Mr. Dip Lip," the volunteers explain tobacco's effects on the teeth, tongue and gums. Children also learn that smoking causes cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke and numerous pulmonary ailments.

The teens' goals are to reach children early with their message and prevent them from ever wanting to smoke or chew tobacco.
