Clinical Nurses

Clinical, or inpatient, nurses spend most of their time at the bedside, and are responsible for the hands-on physical care of each patient in the Leukemia Department.  They carry out all orders and duties assigned by the physician or advanced practice nurse, and make sure all the patient's needs are being taken care of.

As part of the Medical Team, clinical nurses learn what the team's daily goal is for each patient. They report any physical or mental changes in condition to team members.  Other duties include assisting with vital signs, patient hygiene, special skin or oral care, and supplying clean bed linens and hospital gowns.

Each clinical nurse is responsible for two to three patients each day, but they can quickly change to one-on-one status in case of emergency.  Our clinical nurses are one of the reasons why
M. D. Anderson is known for its top-quality patient care.
