Blackberry Devices and
Services OverviewThe purpose of
this solicitation is to obtain information and pricing for the selection of
the Successful Bidder/s ("Contractor/s") to provide Blackberry
devices and adequate data coverage throughout the M.D. Anderson's division of Information Services has oversight responsibility
for the systems covered under this scope of work. BackgroundM.D. Anderson currently has approximately 4,000 Blackberry devices
deployed and 11,000 one-way and two-way pagers. Paging is provided by USA
Mobility for all devices. For Blackberry devices the page is forwarded to the
Blackberry Internet Service email address as a level one alert. The
in-building solution is provided in ALK, CPB, FC, BSRB, KCA, KCB, MAYS, PTC,
SCRB, and PAT buildings. MD Anderson has three Exchange BES servers with
Operating System Version 4.16, with plans to upgrade to 5.1. The environment
also includes redundant servers using Neverfail for
automatic switchover and Boxtone for
troubleshooting and monitoring down to the device level. M.D. Anderson does not provide cellular service. Employees wishing to
have cellular service on institutionally provided Blackberry devices have the
option to enroll for the service with the carrier under an individual liable
account. M.D. Anderson provides international devices under a check out/in
basis. There are approximately 300 rotating employees traveling
internationally at any given time. M.D. Anderson provides tiered support to employees. 1.) call center, 2.) desktop support,
3.) support analyst, and 4.) engineer.
Support analyst and engineers work with the vendor support. The individual
Blackberry holders, call center, and desktop support do not currently contact
vendor support. M.D. Anderson has a support contract with Research in Motion. PRE BID MEETING
