In an office outside of normal working hours? UTPD suggests employees notify the Communications Center and let them know the location and hours the employee plans to be working. They will periodically send an officer to check on the employee. |
How safe is it to walk from one building to another or to the parking lot after dark? Rather than weigh the odds, UTPD has a program to ensure safety. All patients, visitors, students, or staff members have to do is call the communications center, or pick up an emergency phone, to request a police escort. This service is available between the sunset and sunrise. UTPD notes that waiting a few minutes for an officer to arrive is better than taking a chance walking alone in a major city medical center. | ![]() |

A fast growing component of the police force is the Bike Patrol on campus. Police officers on mountain bikes have more mobility in some areas of a congested medical center than officers in cars. The Bike Patrol is also stationed outside of the main complex to patrol the area and to assist in traffic flow. |
Controlling Access to Buildings and Facilities
Photo ID cards are issued to faculty, staff, students and volunteers. Additional measures include responding to alarm systems, checking magnetic delay door locks, and controlling card access systems. |

Lost the keys? Locked
out of your car? The university police provide another service just for
these circumstances - Motorist Assist. They can also be called from
the emergency phones. Found the key but the car won't start? This is another service provided. An officer will come to the rescue again and give your car battery a jump. |
The UT Police, with the assistance of M. D. Anderson's Human Resources and Legal Services, began a Campus Violence Prevention Program in 1995. The program is intended to detect and correct possible workplace violence issues before an incident occurs. By calling 713-792-STOP, the Campus Violence Team activates to review and address issues in the workplace leading to possible violence. | ![]() |
