MIMICS OF SOFT-TISSUE SARCOMA

Infection and Granulomas

Patient 16

25-year-old male with history of metastatic neuroblastoma and signs and symptoms of infection.

1.
T1W MR image of left thigh reveals multiloculated mass in left thigh with contiguous bone destruction and marrow abnormality. Bone destruction would be unusual in soft-tissue sarcoma.
2.
T2W MR image reveals multiloculated high signal intensity mass. Note diffuse subcutaneous edema which is not a feature of untreated soft-tissue sarcoma.
3.
Contrast enhanced T1W MR image reveals low signal intensity multiloculated abscess cavities. The abscess was secondary to E coli infection.
