MIMICS OF SOFT-TISSUE SARCOMA: PSEUDOTUMORS

INTRODUCTION

GANGLION (CYST)

  • Unilocular or multilocular cystic mass
  • Commonly occurs on dorsal surface of wrist
  • Generally occurs in age group 25-45 years
  • More common in women
  • Attached to joint capsule and tendon sheaths
  • Generally does not communicate with joint space
  • Possible traumatic etiology

40-year-old male with surgically proven ganglion cyst of ankle.

T1W MR image reveals discrete 1.5 cm nodule (arrow on JPEG) which is slightly hypointense to adjacent skeletal muscle.

Sagittal T2W MR image reveals well defined slightly lobulated high signal intensity lesion.
