POST- SURGICAL APPEARANCE OF EXTREMITY SARCOMA

44-year-old male with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of right thigh.

1.
Axial T2W MR image reveals hyperintense heterogeneous mass.
2.
Axial T2W MR image obtained five months post surgery reveals high signal intensity in vastus medialis muscle without focal contour deformity. Muscle shape is maintained. Subcutaneous edema is noted. These are characteristic post surgical changes and may last for several months.
3. Axial T1W MR image confirms maintenance of vastus medialis muscle shape. The MR image does not reveal any recurrence. Note focal 'scarring' in subcutaneous tissue (arrow on JPEG image).
