GENERAL IMAGING CHARACTERISTICS (PRE-THERAPY)

INTRODUCTION

MR imaging accurately determines the extent of extremity soft-tissue sarcoma and is the diagnostic imaging modality of choice in determining extent of lesion.

71-year-old female with extraskeletal osteosarcoma of left thigh. Sagittal T1W MR image reveals large mass with central high intensity hemorrhage, tumor nodule (large arrow on JPEG image) and cystic degenerative change (small arrow on JPEG image).
2.
Post contrast sagittal MR image reveals enhancing tumor nodule (large arrow on JPEG image) and non-enhancing cystic degenerative change (small arrow on JPEG image). The hemorrhage does not significantly enhance while the solid periphery of the lesion enhances.

Note correlation with MR images and solid tumor nodule (arrow on JPEG image).
