1.
Coronal T1W MR image reveals areas of hyperintense adipose tissue similar to subcutaneous tissue within mass (arrow on JPEG image). The tumor component not containing pure adipose tissue does not exhibit signal characteristics of fat.
2.
Axial T2W MR image reveals adipose tissue with signal intensity similar to subcutaneous fat (arrow on JPEG image). The tumor component not containing pure adipose tissue is hyperintense. Generally, other types of liposarcoma mimic other sarcomas as they do not contain significant amounts of residual adipose tissue. In some instances myxoid liposarcoma may contain small amounts of adipose tissue visible on MR imaging.
3.
Gross surgical specimen superimposed on the MR image.
Note: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma may be visualized on MR imaging as a non-specific mass with adipose tissue noted at the periphery.
