Research interests

Theoretical issues of:

  • cost-effectiveness analysis
  • diagnostic testing

Clinical issues of:

  • cancer prevention
  • prostate cancer screening
  • diagnosis of pre-cancerous cervical dysplasias

Additional collaborative studies have focused on:

  • outcomes preferences in cancer screening and treatment
  • cost-effectiveness evaluations of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions

Dr. Cantor is a clinical decision analyst. In addition to a faculty appointment at
M. D. Anderson, he also holds an appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Biometry at The University of Texas School of Public Health.

Dr. Cantor is President-Elect (2002-2003) of the Society for Medical Decision Making, the professional society dedicated to promoting quantitative approaches to decision making to improve the health and clinical care of individuals and to assist in health policy information. Previously, he served as Vice President (2000-2001) and Trustee (1997-1999) on the Board of Trustees. He also served as an Assistant Editor (1994-1997) for the Society's methodological journal Medical Decision Making and as Program Chair for the Society's 19th Annual Meeting.
