The MDASI is a brief, simple, and easy to use tool for the assessment of multiple symptoms in both clinical and research settings. The MDASI uses simple numeric rating scales from 0 to10 that are easy to understand and easy to translate into other languages. The MDASI has been validated in a sample of cancer patients at M. D. Anderson, and can be completed by very ill patients. Additionally, it is ideal for use in an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to monitor the symptoms of patients while they are at home.
