Program Procedures

  • Appointments must be made in advance by calling 713/745-4000. Walk-ins cannot be accepted.
  • Payment arrangements will be confirmed prior to screening day. The cost of a screening mammogram is $85.00. Insurance reimbursement forms are available. Clients paying for their mammograms should make checks payable to MDACC C/C 10340701. MasterCard and Visa are also accepted. Cash cannot be accepted on the van.
  • Each woman to be screened must have her physician’s name and address with her at the time of the appointment, if the report is to be sent to her doctor.
  • Women should bring their original prior mammogram films, if accessible, with them at the time of appointment. If a comparison is needed and prior films are not available, the final reading may be delayed as long as four weeks. Having comparison films on hand reduces the recall rate.
  • Women should wear a two-piece outfit and wear no powder or lotion, and only light deodorant, on the underarm and breast areas.
  • Women should plan for the mammogram to take 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Women will be notified by mail of their results. If there is a suspicious finding, they will receive a phone call in addition to the letter. All mammography results are confidential.
